  • Undertake quality research, energy assessment, providing consultancy and policy advisory in the field of rural energy including conservation, environment protection, bio energy and natural resources management.
  • Establish demonstration models, execute project planning and implementation, provide technical back up and take up monitoring and evaluation.

MGIRED Quality Policy

MGIRED is committed to impart knowledge, equip learners with skills through informal education system and create replicable models for nation through execution of projects in the areas of Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation, Environment Protection, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development and allied subjects and aims at being a premier national /global institution through continual improvement of its scholastic ability and effectiveness.



The MGIRED was established with following objectives:

  • To develop the institute into a premier institute in rural energy, environment, natural resource management, biofuels, rain water harvesting, improved cook stoves, and rural development subjects with prime focus on training, awareness creation , demonstration, research, planning and execution of projects, monitoring and evaluation, consultancy and policy advisory services.
  • To provide best possible training with practical applications which can be adopted by the trainees.
  • To create awareness on a large scale.
  • To keep abreast with latest technological advances, successful models of planning and growth, grass root level innovations, local best practices, etc and transfer the knowledge to various stakeholders.
  • To provide state-off-the art facilities for skill development trainings.
  • To provide skill development trainings and entrepreneurship promotion programmes to rural youth.
  • Facilitate rural and social transformation through participatory planning and implementation of novel replicable project models for sustainable development.
  • To make available modern, affordable scientific and technological advancements in the areas of renewable energy for rural communities.
  • Undertake energy assessment and energy planning for individual houses, institutions, cluster of villages.
  • Implement Remote Village energy programmes by integrating various sources of energy generation and energy conservation measures.
  • To develop linkages with institute of repute to strengthen the activities and knowledge base.
  • Serve as a technical backup unit.
  • Monitor various rural energy projects and develop suitable computer simulation models for monitoring.
  • Establish facilities for documentation, information, dissemination and mass communication in the area of rural energy, other appropriate technologies for rural areas and efficient uses of all forms of energy suitable for rural applications.
  • Establish demonstration centers for various technologies appropriate for rural areas.
  • Undertake research and development and transfer to stake holders.
  • Undertake consultancies on renewable energy, energy conservation, biogas, solid waste management, improved cook stoves, rain water harvesting, energy assessment, biomass, etc projects.
  • Provide necessary advice to State Government, other Authorities and Institutions relating to programmes and policies on Rural Energy.
  • Identify, promote, establish, run, manage, execute, finance, develop, advise, assist, aid, collaborate with any person/association/ society/ company /enterprise/ undertaking/ institution etc or scheme for the advancement, development and successful execution of all renewable, non-conventional energy programmes, power generation, conservation and promotion and development of rural energy through bio-energy, bio-mass, solar, wind, ocean, thermal, tidal, mini and micro hydel, animal and human energy, etc.
  • Perform any other functions, incidental or ancillary to the above.
